Freight Industry Blog

Shipping guides, market news and practical advice for China importers and e-commerce sellers.

What is here

Practical China freight, not marketing copy

Everything on this blog is written to answer one of the questions that comes up on a real quotation: how the weight is calculated, what the destination will charge, which mode fits the deadline, and what has to be filed before the cargo leaves China.

The sections are organised the way a shipment is: choose the mode, work out the chargeable quantity, settle the Incoterm, then deal with the destination. Air, ocean and rail each have their own arithmetic — a 6000 divisor for air freight, a 5000 divisor for express, and the greater of one cubic metre or 1,000 kg for ocean LCL — and most quotation surprises come from applying the wrong one.

The customs and DDP sections cover the part that actually decides landed cost: the destination tariff code, whether import VAT sits inside the quoted number, and the filings that cannot be arranged after departure — ISF 10+2 for the United States, a conformity certificate or cargo tracking note for a number of African markets, an ISPM 15 mark on any solid wood packaging.
